Nestled in the heart of the medieval village of Cadouin, Les Hirondelles stands as a rare testimony to Périgord craftsmanship. Its golden limestone walls, centuries-old exposed beams, and terracotta-tiled floors tell a story of enduring beauty — one that has been lovingly preserved and thoughtfully elevated for the discerning traveller.
From the sun-drenched Abbey View Terrace, guests enjoy an uninterrupted prospect over the UNESCO-listed Abbaye de Cadouin, its Romanesque cloister bathed in the amber light of the Dordogne valley. Inside, the property unfolds across four elegant bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, and sweeping attic living spaces where original stone walls and ancient timber frames coexist with curated contemporary design.
The house takes its name from what happens up there at the end of the day. As the sun drops behind the valley and the stone turns from gold to rose, the swallows rise over the rooftops and wheel in wide circles around the bell tower — and the terrace is the best seat in the village from which to watch them.

This is the house the younger generation of the family gravitates to, and it invites you to use every one of its rooms and all of its facilities. We have always appreciated a holiday house that is well appointed and well stocked, and we now offer an extensive range of features, utilities and amenities ourselves.
Access. The ground floor is step-free and the upper floors are reached by a staircase with a handrail. There are low beams under the roof, and no lift.
Travelling with young children. A high chair is available. There is no cot and no stair gate. The terrace is raised and has no child-proof barrier, some floors are stone and slippery when wet, and the house opens onto a road with passing traffic. Talk to us if you are unsure whether it suits your family.

A car is recommended: the houses sit in the village of Cadouin, and the markets, vineyards and castles are spread across the valley. The nearest station is Le Buisson, a short drive away, on the Bordeaux–Sarlat line; car hire is available at Bergerac and Bordeaux airports.
Castles, caves, gardens and market towns — almost everything worth seeing is within three quarters of an hour. We keep our own list, with the drive times checked.

« Wir hatten eine wunderschöne Zeit in diesem tollen Haus. Wir waren vier Erwachsene und drei Kinder und hatten viel Platz uns auszubreiten. Auch die Spielsachen und Bücher für die Kinder waren toll! Das Dorf ist wirklich sehr hübsch mit vielen kleinen Restaurants. Besonders gut haben uns der Markt am Mittwoch und das Dorffest am Donnerstag gefallen. »
We had a wonderful time in this great house. We were four adults and three children and had plenty of room to spread out. The toys and books for the children were lovely too! The village is really very pretty, with many small restaurants. We especially enjoyed the Wednesday market and the village festival on Thursday.

A beautiful property, spacious and very well equipped. We spent a lovely week enjoying the outdoor spaces and the barbecue. The bedrooms are comfortable. Having private parking right beside the house is a real plus. Communication with Yannick was very easy and we were made to feel welcome. Cadouin is a charming little village, lively through the summer.
Good to Know
Check-in from 4 pm, check-out by 10 am. Minimum stay three nights, and seven nights in high season.
A later departure can usually be arranged at no charge, subject to availability — it depends on the booking that follows yours, so please ask us the day before rather than on the morning itself.
A key box is available. If you prefer, we can arrange for someone to meet you on arrival.
Bed linen and towels for every guest. Free Wi-Fi throughout, and a family television. Washing machine and tumble dryer.
Tourist tax included. The taxe de séjour set by the local authority is already in the nightly rate. There is nothing to pay on arrival.
Central heating throughout. There is no air conditioning, and none is needed: the thick Périgord stone walls stay cool through the day and hold that coolness into the evening.
The use of the house and everything in it. Appliances, kitchen equipment, hairdryer, toiletries, toilet paper, the speaker — all of it is there for you.
Extra guests. Beyond six, €20 per person per night.
A mid-stay clean. €150 per stay, on request — a full clean partway through your stay, with fresh bed linen and fresh towels for everyone. Add it when you book, or ask us once you are here.
A pet. €25 per stay.
Beach towels are not provided — please do not take the bathroom towels out of the house.
Parking. One space in a closed garage.
Cot and high chair. Free on request.
A few small shops in the village, and the market beside the abbey. For a full supermarket, a short drive.
Pets are welcome. Smoking outside only. Parties and events are not permitted.
A €500 pre-authorisation is held on your card shortly before arrival and released after departure. No money is taken.
Children are welcome, and so are babies. We would rather tell you exactly what the house is like and let you judge, than decide for you.
What that means in practice — the levels, the stone staircases, the attic lounge under the roof trusses, the raised terrace and the road at the door — is set out under What Is in the House, further up this page.
A high chair is available. There is no cot and no stair gate. If you need either, tell us before you book and we will say honestly whether we can arrange it.
If you are travelling with a toddler and want to know whether a particular room suits you, write to us. We know these houses well and we will give you a straight answer.
The nightly rate covers six guests. Each additional guest is €20 per night, up to the maximum occupancy of the house. A one-off cleaning fee of €150 applies per stay.
40% is due when you book; the balance ten days before arrival. Taxes are included in the total shown.
A 10% reduction applies from one week and 20% from one month. Bookings made within five days of arrival receive 5% off.
Payments already made are non-refundable. Please write to us if your plans change — we will always try to help.
